Who is this article for?Q-Pulse Admins and IT Personnel planning an upgrade to Q-Pulse 7 web.
IT knowledge access required.
The Q-Pulse upgrade is performed by upgrading a variety of different components depending on how to interact with Q-Pulse and what features you have chosen to implement.
This article outlines the key preparation you will need to perform in advance of an upgrade. To make this easier to follow, the preparations have been split into the roles responsible for each area:
1. IT Personnel
As a member of the IT team you are responsible for performing the Q-Pulse upgrade on your environment. Therefore, before you begin please ensure that you have:
- Referred to the new pre-requisites required for Q-Pulse 7.1 found in the Installation Guide.
- A valid Q-Pulse username and password for every database you are upgrading. These credentials will be needed to test the upgrade has been successful.
- Reviewed the full upgrade steps before proceeding.
- Reviewed the Technical Considerations for Upgrading to Q-Pulse 7.
- Review the steps required to deploy the client.
- Performed a full backup of all Q-Pulse databases that are to be upgraded. Please see How to Backup the Q-Pulse Database for further details.
- Taken a backup of the existing xml files and Q-Pulse.lic file within the ‘Q-Pulse Server’ installation folder (this is normally C:\Program Files\Gael Ltd\Q-Pulse Server but may vary depending on your specific installation).
- Confirmed what additional Q-Pulse components need upgraded (if any) before you begin. Please see the What Needs to be Upgraded section for further details.
- Full system administrative rights to the server(s).
- Co-ordinated enough downtime with your Q-Pulse team and all users are logged out of the system. You can enforce this remotely using the Administration module’s ‘Log Out Session’ feature.
- Launch the QPulseMessageDispatchControlPanel.exe and take a note of all email configuration settings (including SMTP server names, credentials and email addresses).
2. Q-Pulse Administrator
As the Q-Pulse administrator you are responsible for confirming that all functionality is working before going live with the update. Therefore, please ensure that you have:
- Reviewed the release information and have understood the new functionality that this upgrade includes. You can find details of this available in the Getting Started pages.
- Performed user acceptance testing on a separate staging environment (if possible).
- Made yourself familiar with any security changes included in this upgrade and have reviewed your Q-Pulse security configuration accordingly.
- Communicated the upgrade to end users and they are aware of what to expect when they next log in to Q-Pulse.
3. What Needs to be Upgraded?
In addition to the Q-Pulse client, server and database you may have additional components to upgrade.
